A Vital Link in the Lowcountry Economy
The 526 Lowcountry Corridor connects port terminals to distribution
centers, enhances local and statewide commerce and industry, and
provides community connections for workforce mobility. A virtual
lifeline, I-526 also includes three major river crossings to facilitate
hurricane evacuation throughout the region.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT)
In cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), SCDOT will
focus on a critical piece of the I-526 Corridor, extending from Rivers
Avenue to Paul Cantrell Boulevard. The community is encouraged to
participate in a process prescribed by the National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA) to help produce a vision for this Lowcountry gateway that
reflects the needs of the region.
